A superb chance to peek into the German heritage, that’s what ‘Oktoberfest’ is all about. In Ohio, ‘Oktoberfest’ starts at the end of August and festive spirits concludes in the October month, enthralling residents of Buckeye State. The major celebrations pep up the spirits for about 6 weeks or so in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati.

It’s a tradition to kick-start this world-famous festival with the traditional tapping/celebrity keg tapping of the first barrel of beer.

Traditionally, ‘Oktoberfest’ customs seem more lively and enjoyable with the costumes classic southern Bavarian dress, a dirndl, or low-cut blouse with a laced-up bodice and aproned full skirt for women, and the lederhosen leather shorts with embroidered braces for men. I was left mesmerized with the music, drum beats and bright attire.

‘Not German but Bavarian’ as many would eulogized it, the festival is not quintessentially German, it’s seem to embrace history of all major cities. King Ludwig of Bavaria in 1810 started the Oktoberfest celebration and a horse race to celebrate his marriage to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen.

Why Chicken Dance?

Composed by accordion player Werner Thomas in Switzerland in 1950s. and became popular when Dutch band De Electronica’s recorded it in 1980. Properly translated as The Duck Dance, there were no duck costumes at the Tulsa Oklahoma ‘Oktoberfest’ when it was introduced to the United States by the Heilbronn Band, so they used chicken costumes instead. Since then its been called as Chicken Dance. Cincinnati Oktoberfest, 2004 holds the record for the World’s Largest Chicken Dance.

Bavarian Shopping Village with exciting items for sale like earthenware beer steins, German merchandise, paintings and jewelry gives us a sneak peek about German culture. There was this witty and awesome guy who was keeping kids of all ages amused with his balloon art. Our younger one specifically told him, “I wanna have one Pink Octopus” 😀 & elder one went with a Teddy Bear. We tried beer, funnel cakes, native ice-creams flavors & bought home-made cakes, chocolates, gifts, jewelries. Lots of fun, live music, German food, microbrew competition, wiener dog races and Paulaner beer. It’s not-to-be-missed thing when you are around Cleveland. We had a great time. You’ll enjoy these heart-warming sneak peek ❤ ❤

Walk with me# day 89

Trees are the earth’s endless effort to speak to the listening heaven.

~Rabindranath Tagore

It’s been a while that I shared “Walk with Me” series with you all. Today, I am sharing few photographs of  Trees- different perceptions, different moods of Trees. I captured these “trees-moods” during my walk@ Stoney Brook stream, Glen Penitentiary Reservation, Kent wood, Ohio. It’s about 34 miles from my residential city, amazing place, worth the long-drive to walk/hike its beautiful trails.

Stoney Brook is a permanent stream designated as a cold water habitat. The surrounding valley support populations of native cold water fish, birds, amphibians and plants etc. If one gets lucky, one can spot Dark-eyed Junco, Louisiana Water thrush, Northern red salamander, two lined salamander & Black nosed dace.

We hiked around 2.83 miles, to reach gorge. The access to the George is restricted due to its steep walls, unpaved path & preserving Eco-system. Enjoy the Walk. ❤ ❤

To such an extent does nature delight and abound in variety that among her trees there is not one plant to be found which is exactly like another; and not only among the plants, but among the boughs, the leaves and the fruits, you will not find one which is exactly similar to another.

Walk With Me# 88

Cherry summer cloud happy heart blossoms overgrowing my sunlit soul bursting into nature’s freedom!

~Terri Guillemets

It’s been a while I updated “Walk With Me” series. One of the main reasons being, it’s summers & it’s vacation time. Kids are at home. We welcome one new member to our home, 11 weeks back, a cute pup, which we all named as “Duke”, a JRT (Jack Russell Terrier). You all must have seen my updated snap over my blog at “About Me” section, it’s me holding Duke, the first time we met. ❤ ❤

Today, I am going to share lots of things, that we all did and have done from last couple of weeks, taking “Nature Walks” around Parks/Gardens, or enjoying 3 days feast & fireworks @Home days fest & celebrating 4th of July with family & friends, taking whole day out, visiting one of the nearby city, Canal Fulton, to celebrate and watch 4th of July fireworks with Go-Kart, Dodgems and Water splash fun, non-stop for about 4 hours . It was a great long weekend. Now, I got extra calories to watch out for after my gastronomic extravaganza from couple of weeks. 😀 😀

Last but not least, We also celebrated our 11th Marriage Anniversary in  June ❤ ❤

So, here are few of the snaps I wanted to share with you all. Enjoy & Keep Walking with Me. 🙂 🙂
